by injections of hormones6 (20), by theophylline,6 or by adrenalectomy6 (20). These studies have emphasized the diversity of enzyme patterns and adaptive responses present in transplantable rat hepatomas with a wide spectrum of growth rates (6). Recently, a series of transplantable mouse hepatomas of spontaneous origin has been developed, the occurrence of which was first reported by Andervont and McEleney (1) in 1941, using C3H inbred mice. Subsequent studies confirmed their observation (5) and noted an increased incidence of hepatomas in C3H X Y hybrid mice over that observed with C3H mice (3, 4). Hancock and Dickie (2) have reported the occurrence of spontaneously arising hepatomas in (DBA/2WyDi X CE/J) @ male mice fed a high-fat diet but developed only one transplantable line from the spontaneous hepatomas. Several of the spontaneously occurring hepatomas in C3H X Y mice have now been transplanted serially, and enzyme activities have been determined for tyrosine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.5), SDH,7 G6PDH, and CCE. The availability of the series of Reuber mouse hepatomas and of the series of Morris rat hepatomas may allow a detailed investigation of the diversity of enzyme patterns not only between 2 species of laboratory animals but also between spontaneously arising and chemically induced transplantable hepatomas.

Glucuronyltransferase Activity in Transplantable Rat
Reactions investigated in several types of neoplasms have included N-demethylation (4), side-chain oxidation, ring hydroxylation, 0and N-dealkylation, and aromatic nitro group reduction (1 , 9). For glucuronidation the situation seems to be less clear. According to data summarized by Dutton (6) glucuronyltransferase (EC 2.4.1.17), which transfers glucuronic acid from uridine diphosphate glucuro...
متن کاملEnzyme patterns in a group of transplantable mouse hepatomas of different growth rates.
A series of transplantable hepatomas which arose spontaneously in mice or in mice treated with goldthioglucose, urethan, or 3-methylcholanthrene has been tested for the extent of deviation of enzyme activity from that of normal liver. The growth rates of these hepatomas varied from 2 1 to 211 days. Deoxythymidine kinase, uridine kinase, carbamylphosphate synthetase , aspartate transcarbamylase,...
متن کاملActivities of some enzymes of pyrimidine and DNA synthesis in a rat transplantable hepatoma and human primary hepatomas, in cell lines derived from these tissues, and in human fetal liver.
Activites of the enzymes DNA polymerase, thymidine kinase, thymidylate kinase, thymidylate synthase, and deoxycytidylate deaminase have been measured in rat and human normal and neoplastic liver, in human fetal liver, and in cell lines derived from human hepatomas and rat transplantable hepatomas. The activities of these enzymes were increased in rat transplantable hepatomas, relative to rat no...

Al though the phenotypes, including isozyme pattern, in the transplantable humors are known ho be fairly stable through generations of transplantation (1, 17, 50), in certain in stances some phenotypes in Imansplanhablehepahomas alter gradually or suddenly along with increased growth male ...
متن کاملRibonuclease Activity in Some Transplantable Rat Hepatomas.
Several parameters of ribonuclease activity have been determined in a series of transplantable rat tumors and liver from the host rats. These include ribonuclease inhibitor activity, pH activity curves, and the distribution and specific activity of acid and alkaline ribonuclease in subcellular fractions. For those hepatomas studied, compared with liver from the tumor-bearing animal, the followi...
